Amina Benkhoukha, Ph.D.

Amina Benkhoukha holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a Health Emphasis from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. Dr. Benkhoukha’s clinical specialty is in the assessment and treatment of stress and trauma related disorders, particularly with complex comorbid medical presentations. She completed advanced specialty training in evidence-based treatments of post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, traumatic brain injury, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and other serious mental illnesses while working with military veterans at the James J. Peters Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Bronx, New York. Dr. Benkhoukha also completed a yearlong internship at Northwell Health’s Military Families Center in Bayshore, New York, where she worked with families, adults, adolescents, children and couples.

Dr. Benkhoukha is clinically trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma- Focused CBT, Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Seeking Safety Groups for PTSD and Substance Use Disorders, and Interpersonal Therapy. Additionally, Dr. Benkhoukha has extensive training in psychiatric and neuropsychiatric assessment, including tests of IQ, personality, executive function, and academic performance.

While completing a yearlong training at Spectrum Services in New York City, Dr. Benkhoukha conducted individual and group psychotherapy for Autism Spectrum Disorder. Her treatment focused on social competencies training, such as interpersonal and non-verbal communication, behavioral and emotion regulation, problem solving, and other related social skills. Dr. Benkhoukha’s extensive research experience focuses on the long-term effects of trauma, adversity and stress, particularly related to health-related decision making. She served as a research intern for the United Nations International Union of Psychological Silences (UIPsyS), and she has traveled internationally to conduct her research. Dr. Benkhoukha has experience working with Asylum Seekers and composing psychological legal affidavits. She has held an adjunct professor position at Pace University since 2017. Her courses include Experimental Psychology, Psychopathology, Personality Psychology, Social Psychology, and Health Psychology.
