Programs & Treatments:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of treatment that focuses on examining the relationships between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. By exploring patterns of thinking that lead to self-destructive actions and the beliefs that direct these thoughts, people with mental illness can modify their patterns of thinking to improve coping. CBT is a type of psychotherapy that is different from traditional psychodynamic psychotherapy in that the therapist and the patient will actively work together to help the patient recover from their mental illness. People who seek CBT can expect their therapist to be problem-focused, and goal-directed in addressing the challenging symptoms of mental illnesses. Because CBT is an active intervention, one can also expect to do homework or practice outside of sessions.

At Spectrum Neuroscience and Treatment Institute, practitioners of CBT include psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists. You will be referred to appropriate practitioner for your needs.

  • Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) & deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (dTMS)

TMS Therapy is similar to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which uses precisely targeted magnetic pulses that stimulate key areas of the brain that are underactive in patients with depression.

This novel treatment option is conducted right in the doctor’s office. Patients are awake and alert during treatment and can go back to their normal activities immediately after treatment is completed. In-office treatments take ~50 minutes and is administered 5 days a week, for approximately 4 to 6 weeks.

TMS is first non-invasive treatment that specifically targets brain regions related to depression in the history of psychiatry. This novel cutting-edge treatment was approved for patients with major depression by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) TMS is also effective in a variety of other conditions, please contact us to discuss this.

  • Intranasal Esketamine

Spravato (esketamine) is indicated for patients who suffer from Treatment Resistant Depression in conjunction with an antidepressant. Our clinic has a four month Spravato Treatment program. We offer one complimentary consultation to meet one of our providers who will prescribe an esketamine dose and treatment schedule, as well as determine the optimal antidepressant. We also offer genetic testing that provides personalized insight into the class and/or specific pharmaceutical agents that will work best for you. We offer the genetic testing prior to the consultation if you would like this service, however it is not mandatory for the Spravato treatment program.

  • Medication Management

Medication management involves a treating psychiatrist meeting with you for an initial consultation to review your current symptoms and diagnoses. Based on this evaluation the psychiatrist may or may not prescribe medications that they feel are appropriate for your symptoms. They may also refer you for other treatment or therapy. If medications are prescribed, the psychiatrist will continue to meet with you as often as needed to evaluate your response to the medication(s).

All three of our psychiatrists provide medication management services.

  • Social Strategies Therapy

Social Skills facilitate interaction and communication with others. Our society has many social rules, and social relations are created, communicated, and changed in both verbal and nonverbal ways. The process of learning such skills is called socialization.
Many people have difficulties in social situations, including meeting new people, starting relationships, communicating in the workplace, interviewing and just day to day communication.
Social Strategies Therapy involves building on the individual’s current social skills using strategies that include learning to read nonverbal and verbal social cues, conversation starters and confidence building.
Both our psychologists and our psychiatrists are trained in providing Social Strategies Training.

  • Career Coaching

Our career coach services include helping individuals with job readiness, job seeking, applying, interviewing, and employment maintenance. We advise on education and training to achieve an individual's career goals. The service enables individuals to weave into the workforce with seamless, clear, and smooth integration.

  • Women's Mental Health

The study of women’s mental health is complex and varied. Women are more likely to develop depression, anxiety, and are at a higher risk for Alzheimer’s Disease. Some psychiatric disorders with similar prevalence, such as mood disorders, manifest differently in women than men. There are also certain types of depression that are linked to the female reproductive system, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), premenstrual dysphoric disorder, postpartum depression, and perimenopausal depression.

Multiple studies to date show that up to 16% of women suffer from mood or anxiety disorders during the pregnancy and postpartum periods. Whether the symptoms develop at the onset of pregnancy or are a continuation of a previous history, women face a difficult decision about how to manage their illness during pregnancy. There are a number of interventions available to women suffering from postpartum depression, including both pharmacological (fluoxetine, paroxetine, buproprion) and non-pharmacological (hormone therapy, interpersonal therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy options). However, it is common for women to consider discontinuing or avoiding altogether pharmacologic treatment in order to decrease the risks of prenatal exposure to medications. To treat or not to treat psychiatric illness in expecting mother is among difficult complex decisions that affect health for the mother and child.  It is important for the patient and their family members to be well informed about the risk:benefit ratios of the management of her specific diagnosis. Spectrum neuroscience institute now provides state of the science evaluation and management of female-specific mental illness and tertiary consultation of complex endocrine conditions as they relate to their mental illness.
